While Empower provided the essentials one would expect from a consumer finance app, they wanted to offer a unique service to address their customers' most pressing financial frustrations, especially for those navigating the challenges of living paycheck-to-paycheck. To achieve this, we played a crucial role in customer research, in addition to iterating on the product’s core and new features, crafting a comprehensive design system and leading a brand transformation to give Empower a more modern touch.

As part of the product strategy to discover where there was opportunity to better serve Empower’s customers, competitive analysis and customer research was conducted. Several key features for experimentation were identified, serving as the foundation for what would very quickly become Empower’s new and winning feature, Cash Advance.

Empower launched Cash Advance to an exclusive beta group to continue to assess product market fit. Following a successful beta, Cash Advance was rolled out to all customers as Empower’s core business offering.
